Pathway Program

The most recent available data from the Census Reporter website indicates that approximately 10% of the population in Mecklenburg County, or close to 116,000 people, lives in poverty.

Poverty transcends zip codes and town boundaries, affecting thousands of low-income families residing in north Charlotte and among the towns of Huntersville, Cornelius, and Davidson. These families face additional barriers due to limited interventions in North Mecklenburg County, which primarily address critical needs.

Adults wanting to gain the skills and education needed to increase their household income must look to programs available in east, west, or city center Charlotte. The inaccessibility of such programs in the North Mecklenburg County area, coupled with challenges such as conflicting work schedules, access to reliable transportation, and a lack of affordable childcare emphasizes the need for interventions that support financial stability and upward mobility.

Angels & Sparrows empowers families to reach their potential and gain upward economic mobility by ensuring food security.

Our program’s 2Gen framework addresses the educational needs of both parents and children, recognizing that a child’s success is interconnected and interdependent upon the success of the adult(s) in their life.

Evidence from the Aspen Institute shows that addressing both adult and child educational needs can lead to significant improvements in household income and stability.

Our Program Scope Includes:

Adult Educational Opportunities

Offer adult evening ESL and HSE classes, with progression to career training or post-secondary programs.

Youth & Teen Educational Opportunities

Provide children with literacy support, tutoring, mentoring, ACT/SAT Prep, and college and career readiness.

Wraparound Services

Address needs that could derail a family’s success by ensuring food security as well as access to financial and transportation assistance, mental health services, and financial literacy workshops.

Mobility Mentoring

Promote self-sufficiency through goal-setting and coaching.

Program Partners

Partnering with organizations like the Academy of Goal Achievers, The Facts Initiative, Flyin’ Lion Ministries, CPCC, and Fifth Third Bank allow us to increase our program’s reach and effectiveness.

With this program, anyone can have access to essential educational opportunities using a comprehensive 2Generation framework.

We make essential educational opportunities, connections, resources, and support accessible to marginalized North Mecklenburg families to help them gain financial stability and achieve upward mobility.
